Sex Offender Compliance Detail

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports Investigators recently completed a county-wide Sex Offender Compliance Check that lasted several days. During that time, Investigators responded to the residences of nearly 70 registered sex offenders residing within the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction. The purpose of compliance check was to physically verify their addresses, as well as verify other information that is required to be reported under the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act. As a result, Sheriff’s Office Investigators report the arrest of a Level 2 offender residing in Ovid, NY. Michael J Travis, age 47 of 2194 County Road 139 Ovid was charged with a Sex Offender Registry Violation and Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st, both felonies. It is alleged that Travis purposely failed to report required information to the Registry. Travis was arraigned at Seneca County CAP Court and remanded to the Seneca County Correctional Facility. He is to reappear at the Romulus Town Court on a later date.
