Seneca County Sheriff’s Office to offer child seat technician class

The Seneca County Sheriffs Office in conjunction with the New York State Governors Traffic Safety Committee will be conducting a Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician Class. The class will be held from September 23-26th, 2019, 0800-1700 hours at the Waterloo Fire Department on North Water Street in Waterloo.

The course is a 32 hour national certification course and will combine classroom instruction and hands on training for attendees. Successful candidates will be able to inspect child seats for the proper selection, installation and use for our most vulnerable travelling partners.

Sheriff Tim Luce reports that statistics have shown that 8 of 10 child seats inspected have some type of safety issue or are installed improperly.

Those wishing to attend may sign up through the Safe Kids website, the Course ID is NY20190718821, there is a 95.00 certification fee that is payable to Safe Kids through the website. The Seneca County Sheriffs Office, nor the NYSGTSC require any fees for the course.

Attendees need not be a member of a Public Safety organization to attend, the only requirement is that the student attend all hours of the course and take part in the seat check event held on the final day.
