Fraud Arrest

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reports, on July 1st, 2024 at approximately 4:30pm Investigators arrested Arcangel L. Soler, age 55 of Waterloo, NY, for 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 1st, Petit Larceny and Scheme to Defraud.  The arrest stems from an incident that occurred at a Town of Waterloo Business where it is alleged that Arcangel Soler did utter a counterfeit $100 bill in exchange for goods and was provided U.S. currency as change to the transaction.  Arcangel Soler returned to the business on a later date and attempted to do the same. In addition to the above charges Arcangel Soler was also charged with False Personation.  It is alleged that on June 25, 2024 Soler provided Sheriff’s Deputies with a false name and date of birth following a traffic stop in the Town of Waterloo.  Soler was arraigned at Seneca County CAP Court where he was remanded to the Seneca County Correctional Facility.

Over the past two weeks The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, The Seneca Falls Police Department and the Waterloo Police Department have fielded numerous calls about receiving counterfeit $100 bills.  Anyone that has had any counterfeit money passed to them should contact Investigator James Altemari by phone at 315-220-3443 or by email at
