Fatal MVA Town of Waterloo

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports on 3/6/2020 at about 1220 AM ,  Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a two vehicle MVA on Burgess Road in the Town of Waterloo.  Deputies report that Jon Lamere age 29 of 920 Caroline Road Waterloo was Northbound on Burgess Road when he failed to observe a utility truck that was doing work on Burgess Road.  Deputies report Lamere failed to see the traffic cones and hazard lights on the truck , and ran into the rear of the truck- striking and killing the worker; Paul J Kelley  age 49 of Co Rd 132 Ovid NY. Burgess Road was closed for several hours while Sheriff’s accident reconstruction and Investigators processed the scene. Kelley was pronounced dead at the scene by Seneca County Coroner Rick Coe. Sheriff’s Deputies and investigators charged Lamere with Driving while intoxicated ,Vehicular manslaughter 2nd , reckless driving , unlawful possession of marihuana, and using a cell phone without a handsfree device  and he will be released to appear at CAP court at a later date.  Deputies were assisted by Waterloo Fire , Waterloo PD and North Seneca Ambulance. Seneca County Sheriff Tim Luce reports the case remains under investigation.
