Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reports that on January 15th, 2024, at about 10:17 AM, Deputies responded to the intersection of State Route 414 and Yellow Tavern Road Town of Fayette for the report of a property damage accident with injuries.
Upon arrival Deputies observed two vehicles with heavy damage. Deputies were assisted by Fayette Fire Department, extracting both drivers from the vehicles. After further investigation it was determined that Lindsay Shirk, age 38, of 6516 County Road 129 in Ovid was operating a 2017 Ford Expedition heading Northbound on state Route 414. Kathleen Irland, age 75, of 1965 Mills Road in Waterloo was operating a White 2020 Civic heading east on Yellow Tavern Road. As Shirk approached the intersection, Irland failed to stop at the stop sign on Yellow Tavern Road and was struck by the Expedition causing heavy damage to both vehicles.
Shirk was extracted through the windshield of her vehicle and transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries by Finger Lakes Ambulance. Deputies, EMT’s and Fire personnel performed life saving measures on Kathleen Irland but succumbed to her injures.
Deputies were also assisted on scene by North and South Seneca Ambulance, NYSP and NYS DEC and Seneca County Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Team.
