Farm equipment fire Town of Romulus

Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports an agricultural farm equipment fire on November, 10, 2020. At approximately 3pm, Deputies arrived to the area of Swick Road and Iron Bridge Road in the Town of Romulus where a Case combine was actively burning. The fire had spread about 300 feet north towards the road, lighting a large amount of corn on fire. The driver of the vehicle, Timothy Martin, age 35 of Hector, escaped without injury. The owner, John Myer, age 66 of Ovid, was on scene while Ovid Fire Department fought the flames. Interlaken, Lodi, Romulus, Varick, and Fayette Fire Departments were called to the scene to assist. A nearby farmer, Daryl Martin, 38 of McDuffietown Rd Romulus  was also called to assist in battling the fire when he brought his tilling plow to the scene and plowed around the flames to stop the spread. It is believed that the fire started at the tail end of the tractor, catching rubber mats, engulfing the tractor, while the wind blew the flames across the field. Damage is estimated above $100,000 and is insured. Deputies report no injuries occurred.
