The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports on (Easter) Sunday April 12th 2020 at around 9:00 PM, Deputies responded to a field in the area of Zwick Road and Disinger Road in the Town of Fayette for the report of an Explosion. Deputies state the blast was heard for miles away and caused a cut corn field to catch fire. After an investigation, it was determined that some individuals used an amount of “Tannerite” to ignite a mixture of gasoline and diesel fuel to cause the explosion and subsequent fire. Sheriff Tim Luce explains ” “Tannerite” is a brand name for a legal two part explosive commonly used for rifle targets, that when used as intended ,will not start fires. When used improperly and mixed with other substances , this can make for a very dangerous situation “. On 4/15/2020 Deputies charged Shane Horning 21 of Clyde, Sheldon Wise 20 of Waterloo, Matthew Martin 18 of Fayette, and Delmar Zimmerman 19 of Seneca Falls with Disorderly Conduct. They were issued appearance tickets and will answer the charges in the Town of Fayette Court at a later date. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Fayette Fire Dept.
