Sheriffs Camp

The Seneca County Office of the Sheriff is proud to be affiliated with the New York State Sheriff’s Institute’s Summer Camp for kids. The camp located on Keuka Lake in Yates County is for children between 9 and 12 years old from across New York State. The days are filled with structured morning classes for land and water activities, with the purpose of learning the skills necessary to perform a demonstration of those skills in front of camp on Friday. These are the typical camp fare; hiking, swimming, sailing, archery, canoeing, basketball, kayaking, football, fishing, cheerleading along with some specialty classes depending on the staff for that week. Before lunch each day there is a demonstration from one of the Sheriff’s Office from across the state; anything from K-9, SWAT, Aviation unit, drug awareness, bullying awareness, or maybe just a question and answer session with the kids. The really great part to all of this is that it is all, the food, staffing, transportation is covered through donations. At a time when local law enforcement often has to hold the bitter end of the stick, sheriff’s summer is a place where “Community Policing” takes on its greatest meaning. The camps motto “It’s All About The Kids” shows through in every aspect of camp. We are posting a link to the camp Facebook page where you can see more pictures and get a greater understanding of camp.
