K-9 Unit

Both "BEN" and Sergeant Fowler and "COSKI" and Deputy Nelson participate in monthly training sessions to keep their senses keen.

Both Sheriff's Canine units are available to all Seneca County Law Enforcement Agencies.

K-9 Coski


K9 "COSKI" was born on 6/30/2018 in Hungary which is located in Central Europe. In fall of 2019 K9 COSKI was shipped to Shallow Creek Kennels located in Sharpsville Pennsylvania where she started her training. In December of 2019 Deputy Nelson traveled to Shallow Creek Kennels where he and K9 COSKI completed a 4 week training becoming a certified team. Deputy Nelson and K9 COSKI hold both a New York State certification as well as a NAPWDA certification which is a nationally recognized organization known as North American Working Dog Association.

COSKI is trained and certified in the following areas:

  • Narcotics detection
  • Article/evidence search
  • Tracking missing people or suspects 

COKSI is a female German Shorthair Pointer 

K-9 Ben

K-9 "BEN" and handler, Sergeant John Fowler

K-9 BEN is German Shepard born in Holland.  BEN was "green" or "untrained" when he arrived in the United States and shortly thereafter began his training.

His handler, Sergeant John Fowler met up with BEN in the Fall of 2017 and together they both went through 6 weeks of training in bomb detection and patrol work.

BEN is trained and certified in the following areas:

  • Bomb Detection
  • Criminal Apprehension
  • Building search
  • Area search
  • Article/Package search
  • Tracking
  • Handler Protection

BEN is certified in Patrol/Tracking and Explosive Detection by the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services,  Bureau of Municipal Police.
