Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports on August 24, 2018  at approx. 11pm Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a one car PIMVA on Rt 96A in the Town of Romulus. Deputies report that Thomas Weiler, age 76 from Rochester NY, was driving his Honda CRV northbound on Rt 96A near the W Blain road , when it struck a horse in the road that had gotten loose from a nearby farm. There were no other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Weiler had multiple complaints of pain and  had a noticeable bleed from his head. He was treated at the scene then transported by South Seneca ambulance to the Town of Waterloo where it was met by the helicopter. Weiler was then flown by Mercy Flight air ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for further evaluation. The horse , which was owned by Daniel King age 32 of 1495 W Blaine Rd Ovid, was deceased at the scene . The vehicle sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene .  State Route 96A was also turned into a single lane for nearly an hour while crews dealt with the accident. Seneca County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by New York State Park Police, New York State Police, South Seneca Ambulance, Mercy Flight Central, as well as Ovid Fire, Romulus Fire, Varick Fire, and Border City Fire Departments.

PD MVA / DWI arrest

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Department reports that on August 21st 2018 at approximately 10:45PM, Deputies responded to the Del Lago Casino in the T/Tyre for the report of a vehicle into a pole. Deputies arrived on scene to find  the vehicle involved had left the scene after snapping a light pole in half.  While on scene, Deputies were informed that the vehicle involved had just crashed into a ditch at the intersection of County House and Bauer Road in the T/Fayette. Seneca Falls PD arrived on County House Road and secured the scene until Deputies arrived. After further investigation Deputies arrested Sunye D. Koniz age 61 of Burdett NY for Driving While Intoxicated. Koniz was also  issued a UTT for leaving the scene of an accident in Tyre and  UTT’s for DWI and having a BAC of .o8% or more  at the 2nd accident  in the Town of Fayette . Koniz was released an appearance tickets and is to appear in the T/Tyre and T/Fayette courts  on later dates.

 

Narcotics Arrest

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports, on August 23, 2018 at 2:45PM, members of the Narcotics Unit arrested Keionna N. Sapp, age 33 of 24 ½ Fayette Street, Waterloo, NY. Members of the Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at her residence and discovered a quantity of “crack” cocaine packaged for sale. Sapp was charged with the following:

Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd (2 counts)- Class B Felonies

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd (3 counts)- Class B Felonies

It is alleged that Sapp had been selling “crack” cocaine in the Village of Waterloo. Sapp was held at the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center awaiting arraignment at the Centralized Arraignment Court. Investigators were assisted by K9 “Aiken”, the Geneva Police Department, and Waterloo Police Department.

Criminal contempt 1st / stalking

On August 21, 2018 at approximately 10:00 A.M. , The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office arrested John C. Mancuso, age 81, of 6413 Kims Drive  Victor NY  for Stalking in the 4th Degree, Criminal Contempt 1st and Aggravated Family Offense. The arrest stems from  an ongoing case in which Mancuso called the victim who is an Ovid resident  multiple times over a few days while a class A order of protection was in effect. Mancuso has also violated the order on six other occasions. Mancuso was arraigned in the Town of Ovid Court where he was remanded to the Seneca County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 secure bond. He is to reappear at the Seneca County Court and that date is still to be determined.

Computer Crimes Arrest

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Steven L. Cooley, age 33, of 3069 Cemetery Rd. Seneca Falls, NY 13148. Cooley was arrested by Sheriff’s Investigators on August 8th, 2018 following an investigation of a complaint where it was alleged that he was in possession of computer related data that he did not have permission to access. Following an extensive investigation, Sheriff’s Investigators charged Cooley with the following:

• 1 count of Criminal Possession of Computer Related Material (class E felony)
• 1 count of Computer Trespass (class E felony)
• 10 counts of Unlawful Duplication of Computer Related Material (class E felony)
• Multiple vehicle and traffic infractions and one misdemeanor

Cooley was also charged with multiple traffic offenses due to his alleged reckless operation of a motor vehicle within the Town of Seneca Falls prior to being taken into custody. Cooley was secured at the Seneca County Correctional Facility pending an arraignment in the Central Arraignment Court on 08/09/18 at 8:00am. After arraignment Cooley was remanded to the custody of the Seneca County Sheriff in lieu of $500.00 cash bail or $1,000.00 secured bond and scheduled to reappear in the Town of Seneca Falls Court at a later date.

DWAI – drugs

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on August 18th 2018 at approximately 9:04PM, Deputies responded to the area of State Route 414 for the report of a vehicle into a pole.  After further investigation, Deputies arrested Ashley N. Swarey age 29 of 3512 Ritter Road for DWI Drugs.  It is alleged that Swarey was Southbound on State Route 414 when she dozed off at the wheel, striking a small pole and mailbox.  Swarey was issued UTT’s and is scheduled to appear in the T/Seneca Falls court on a later date.

 

Domestic incident

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office  reports that on August 19th 2018 at approximately 12:18AM, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Domestic incident on Waterloo-Geneva Road. Upon arrival, Waterloo PD was already on scene assisting and had the parties separated.  After further investigation Deputies arrested Luis A. Vargas age 24 of 1008 Waterloo Geneva Road Lot 4 for Endangering the Welfare of a Child. It is alleged that Vargas returned home intoxicated and began to fight with a female and destroy property while in front of a seven year old child. Vargas was transported to the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center where he will await arraignment on the charge.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports on August 16, 2018 at approximately 5:30am Sheriff Deputies arrested Steven J Kirby, age 41 of Rochester NY, on a warrant for Violating Probation. Kirby was transported to the Seneca County Correctional Facility where he awaiting arraignment.

Aggravated DWI/Personal Injury MVA

On August 11th, 2018, at approximately 6:30 PM, Seneca County Sheriff’s Deputies  responded to a report of a rollover Personal Injury Motor Vehicle Accident in the area of Yost Road north of Zwick Road in the Town of Fayette.  After investigation, it was found that a truck had been traveling northbound on Yost Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle heading off the roadway and flipping end over end. The driver who was identified as Joshua Szymanski, age 22, of 2772 Ovid Lodi Town Line Road, Ovid, New York, and the passenger, Jesse Wickham, age 24, were treated for minor injuries on scene and refused further medical treatment.  Other passengers, Megan Waite, age 33,  of 4870 Route 89, Romulus, New York, and David Denton, age 26, of Moravia, New York, were transported by ambulance to Geneva General Hospital and Strong Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. After further investigation, it was found that alcohol had been involved and played a role in the accident.  The driver, Joshua Szymanski, was charged with DWI, Aggravated DWI BAC % greater than .18, Failure to keep right, and not wearing a seat belt.  Joshua was released on appearance tickets and is to appear at the Town of Fayette Court on 09/19/2018 at 7:00 PM to answer the charges.  The New York State Police, Fayette Fire Department, North Seneca Ambulance, and South Seneca Ambulance also responded to the scene.

State of Emergency Update / Evacuation

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office along with the Seneca County Emergency Management Office has updated the status of the State of Emergency to include a Mandatory Evacuation for all residents of the Lodi Point Area.   Emergency crews are currently evacuating residents by boat and taking  them to a shelter at the Ovid Federated Church on Main St in Ovid. Residents in need of emergency assistance are to call 911.
