Boater Safety Classes

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce that we will be hosting two Boater Safety Classes for the public this year. All individuals operating a boat or jet ski in New York State will be required to possess a Safe Boating Certificate by January 1, 2025.

The classes will be held on Saturday, April 27th and Saturday, May 18th. You only need to attend one of the classes to receive the certification. The hours for the classes will be 8am-5pm and will be held in the Training Room at the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center, 6150 Route 96, Romulus, New York. Upon arriving at the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center, please park in the visitor parking lot and enter through the Main Lobby. These classes are free to take, but there is a $10 cost payable to New York State Parks to receive your permanent Safe Boating Certificate. All students must be at least ten years of age to participate.

These classes are an introduction to the basic principles of safe and responsible boating. Upon completion of this class, the student will satisfy the requirements for the New York State Safe Boating Certificate. Additional topics covered in these classes will be rules of the nautical road, required safety equipment, special boating related activities, and much more.

Members of the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Unit will be teaching these classes. Students are encouraged to bring a lunch. Vending machines will be available.
