The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports on 6/05/21 at 1:38 PM Deputies responded to 5519 State Route 96 in the Town Of Varick for a report of a vehicle fire. The Romulus Fire Dept. responded and extinguished the fire. Deputies report the 2011 Chevy Silverado pickup is owned by Issac J. Minguez age 20 of 126 E. William St. Waterloo . The truck is unsalvageable and a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Arrest Warrant Waterloo Court for Welfare Fraud 4th and Misuse of Food Stamps
The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on June 4, 2021 at 6:30 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Billie Schaeffer 46 of 192 Ovid St Lot 18 in the Town of Seneca Falls, on an Arrest Warrant issued from the Waterloo Town Court for Welfare Fraud 4th and Misuse of Food Stamps. Deputies’ report Schaeffer was originally charged on April 7th 2021 after an Investigation in the Town of Waterloo showed Schaeffer abusing the Welfare System and illegally using Food Stamps. Schaeffer then failed to appear in court on the charges. Schaeffer was arrested at her residence by Deputies with the aide of Seneca Falls Police Department without incident. Schaeffer was then transported to the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center for Centralized Arraignment. Schaeffer was released from custody and given a new court date of 07/07/2021 to appear in Waterloo Town Court.

2 car MVA / DWI arrest Town of Fayette
The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on 05/30/2021 at about 4:30pm, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the intersection of State Route 96 and County House Rd in the Town of Fayette for a two car crash. Deputies report a vehicle operated by Lisa Morin age 40 of Romulus was stopped on County House Road , when she was struck by a vehicle operated by Mary Beth Karpel, age 51, of 1800 Curley Mill Rd Chalfont, PA. Karpel had been northbound on Rt 96 when she attempted to turn right onto County House Road, and turned improperly ; striking Morins vehicle in the drivers side. Deputies report Morin was uninjured and her vehicle was driven from the scene. Karpel and her passenger , (Husband Robert Karpel age 53 of same address ) were also uninjured . Upon further investigation, Deputies determined Mary Beth Karpel to be intoxicated and she was charged with DWI, DWI with BAC over .08%, and Failure to Keep Right. She is scheduled to appear at Fayette Town Court on July 7th, 2021 at 7:00pm to answer charges.

Bench Warrant Violation of Conditional release Town of Ovid
The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on May 29, 2021 at 07:00 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Steven Downey age 32 of 7848 RT 89 Ovid, NY on a Bench Warrant from the Ovid Town Court for Violation of Conditional release on the original charge of Criminal Mischief in the 4Th Degree and Trespassing . Downey was originally charged on March 14 2021 after an incident in which he damaged property while trespassing on the property of another. Downey was also arrested on May 23 on an arrest warrant after failing to appear in court. Deputies brought Downey to the Seneca County Correctional Facility where he was arraigned at CAP Court and committed on $500 cash or $1000 bail bond. . CR#21SH06122

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on 05-29-2021 at around 12:30am Marta Guallpa, 64 of Walnut Street in Waterloo was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. The arrest was the result of a traffic stop that occurred on West Wright Ave in the Village of Waterloo. Guallpa was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Blood Alcohol Content of .18% or Higher, and Failure to Dim Headlights. Guallpa was released on appearance tickets and is to appear in the Village of Waterloo Court at a later date to answer to the charges.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on 05-26-2021 at around 1pm Deputies responded to the area of County Road 131 near Highland Road in the Town of Ovid for a one vehicle property damage accident. Sheriff’s Deputies report a vehicle driven by Matthew R. Turner, 30 of Lower Lake Rd Seneca Falls was Northbound on County Rd 131 , when he lost control and went off the roadway , coming to rest on the west side of the road . Turner was uninjured and the only person involved in the accident. Upon further investigation it was discovered that Turner was intoxicated. Deputies charged Turner with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Blood Alcohol Content of .18% or Higher, and Speed Not Reasonable or Prudent. Turner was released and is to appear in the Town of Ovid Court at a later date to answer to the charges.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on May 24, 2021 at 11:00 pm, Deputies arrested Maxwell Schoonmaker, 24, of 470 Blackbrook Road, on State Route 318 in the Town of Junius after conducting a routine traffic stop. Deputies on patrol observed Schoonmaker speeding and upon stopping the vehicle and further investigation found him to be intoxicated. Schoonmaker was charged with Driving while Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with .18% or more, Speeding, No front plate, and No registration sticker. Schoonmaker was released on appearance tickets and is to appear in the Town of Junius Court on June 17, 2021 to answer the charges.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on May 21, 2021 at about 3:50 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Brittany R Pettitt age 32 of Memphis NY, on an Arrest Warrant issued from the Tyre Town Court for Harassment 2nd. Deputies report Pettitt was involved in a dispute on 3/3/2019 at the Del Lago Casino and had failed to appear in court on the charge. Seneca Falls Police located Pettitt while investigating a shoplifting case at Walmart in the Town of Seneca Falls . Pettit was placed into custody and was brought to the Seneca County Correctional Facility and arraigned at CAP Court and released to appear on 06/08/21 05:00 PM in Tyre Town Court.

2 car PI MVA Town of Junius
The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports, on Sunday May 16th, 2021 at approximately 1:10 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the intersection of State Route 318 and Nine Foot Road in the Town of Junius for a two car personal injury motor vehicle accident. Sheriff’s Deputies report a vehicle, driven by Wendy Wickum 50 of Rt 88 Newark NY , was traveling east on State Route 318 at the Nine Foot Road intersection when she attempted to pass other vehicles on the right which were turning north onto Nine Foot Road. A second vehicle, operated by John Scholl , 79 of Edwards Road Waterloo was westbound and attempting to make a left hand turn onto Nine Foot Road when the two vehicles collided. As a result of the accident, Wickum and her passenger Lee Wickum 82 of Lyons sustained minor neck and chest injuries and were transported to Geneva General Hospital by Finger Lakes and Lyons Town Ambulances. The driver of the second vehicle, John Scholl and passenger Janette Scholl 80 (same address ) , also sustained minor injuries in the crash but were not transported.
Deputies report Wickum was issued a traffic ticket for passing unsafely and is to appear before the Town of Junius Court at a later date. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene. Junius Fire Department assisted at the scene.
