Driving while intoxicated, Town of Waterloo

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reports that on July 4th, 2024, at approximately 9:30 PM Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Garrett Hyatt, age 31, of 905 Sonora CT, Virginia in the Town of Waterloo for Driving While Intoxicated, and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated.

The arrest stems from a traffic stop where it is alleged that Hyatt was observed operating a vehicle with a non-functional headlamp. Upon conducting an investigation, it was found that Hyatt was operating the vehicle with a Blood Alcohol Content of more than .18%.

Hyatt was processed on the charges and released on an appearance ticket to reappear in the Town of Waterloo Court on July 24th, 2024, at 5:00 PM.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police.

Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Town of Junuis

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reports that on July 4th, 2024, Deputies arrested Zachery G. Lesterhuis, Age 37, of 1016 Caroline Rd. Junius, NY. Upon investigation Lesterhuis was charged with Criminal obstruction of breathing a Class “A” Misdemeanor and two counts of Harassment 2nd (Violation).

Deputies report that Lesterhuis allegedly choked a male during a domestic dispute to the point where his breathing was obstructed and engaged in unwanted physical contact with the male and a female. Lesterhuis was held at the Seneca County Correctional facility for arraignment.

DWI, Town of Junius


Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reports that on 06/29/2024 Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Del Leon Quinones age 63, of Geneva, NY, for DWI- BAC 0.08 of 1%.

The arrest stems from a Traffic stop where Quinones was stopped for speeding on State Route 318 in the Town of Junius. After an investigation Deputies determined that Quinones was Driving While intoxicated and he was placed into custody without incident.

Quinones was released on an appearance ticket and is to appear before Junius Town Court on 07/16/2024 to answer the charges.

Petit Larceny, Town of Ovid

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reports that Deputy Sheriff’s arrested Tia R. Wade 28, of Geneva N.Y. on June 26th, 2024, around 2:30pm.

The arrest stems from an incident that occurred at a local business in the Town of Waterloo on March 8th, 2024. It is alleged that Wade entered the business and stole $40.99 worth of alcohol. The arrest was the result from an executed arrest warrant. Wade has been charged with Petit Larceny and banned from the business.

Wade was arraigned at the Waterloo Town Court on June 26th, 2024, at 5:30pm, and will re-appear at a later date to answer the charges.

PI MVA, Town of Romulus

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reports that on June 21st, 2024, at about 11:30 AM, Deputies responded to the area of State Route 89 and County Road 138 in Romulus for the report of a rollover accident with injuries.

After Deputies investigated the scene, it was determined that Richard Gunderman age 64 of Endicott NY was Northbound following four vehicles on State Route 89. One of the vehicles slowed down to turn left into a local business. At the same time Gunderman attempted to pass all the vehicles. Gunderman then swerved to miss the vehicle turning and went into a ditch. Gunderman struck a telephone pole and rolled into a vineyard. Gunderman was treated on scene for neck and chest pain then transported to Cayuga Medical Center by South Seneca Ambulance. Gunderman was issued tickets for Unsafe Passing, Speed not reasonable and Prudent and changing lanes unsafely.

Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle, Town of Covert

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reports that on June 26th, 2024, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Jeffrey Peterson Jr, age 35, of Syracuse, New York in the Town of Covert for Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree and Trespass.

The arrest stems from an incident that occurred around 7:15 am on Jun 26th, 2024, at a residence in the Town of Covert. It is alleged that Peterson Jr unlawfully entered and remained on a premise and was found to be sleeping inside the homeowner’s vehicle without having permission to do so.

Peterson Jr fled the scene but was quickly located by Sheriff’s Deputies. Peterson Jr was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center where he was held for pre-arraignment CAP Court. An Order or Protection was requested for the Victim. Peterson Jr is scheduled to appear at the Town of Covert Court at a later date.

Boater Safety Courses

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce that we will be hosting additional Boater Safety Classes for the public. All individuals operating a boat or jet ski in New York State will be required to possess a Safe Boating Certificate by January 1, 2025.

This round of courses will be evening classes broken into 2-day sessions, 4 hours each, you MUST attend both sessions to successfully complete the course. The classes will be held on Thursday and Friday July 11th/12th, Tuesday and Wednesday July 23rd/24th, and Tuesday and Wednesday August 6th/7th. The hours for the classes will be 4:30PM-8:30PM and will be held in the Training Room at the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center, 6150 Route 96, Romulus, New York. Upon arriving at the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center, please park in the visitor parking lot and enter through the Main Lobby. These classes are free to take, but there is a $10 cost payable to New York State Parks to receive your permanent Safe Boating Certificate. All students must be at least ten years of age to participate.

These classes are an introduction to the basic principles of safe and responsible boating. Upon completion of this class, the student will satisfy the requirements for the New York State Safe Boating Certificate. Additional topics covered in these classes will be rules of the nautical road, required safety equipment, special boating related activities, and much more.

Members of the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Unit will be teaching these classes. Vending machines will be available.

Warrant Arrest

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reports that on June 23rd, 2024, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Tysean J. Harris, age 48, of 5 Sisson Street in Lyons for a Failure to Appear Warrant.

The warrant was issued out of the Town of Junius Court, and the original charges are Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle 3rd, and Criminal Mischief 4th.

Harris was transported to the Seneca County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment. Deputies were assisted by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Unauthorized Use Arrest, Town of Tyre

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reports that on 06/20/24 at around 7:33 pm, Deputies arrested Jessica M Newbrook, age 34 of Geneva NY on Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle in the Third Degree.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on 06/15/24 where it is alleged that Jessica borrowed a vehicle from its registered owner. When the owner attempted to get the vehicle back Jessica refused to give it back in a timely manner.

Jessica was brought to the Seneca County Correctional Facility where she was processed and released on an appearance ticket. Jessica is to answer the charges in the Town of Tyre court at a later date.

DWI, Town of Fayette


Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reports that on 06/19/2024 Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Charles D. Hill age 34, of Palmyra, NY, for Aggravated DWI- BAC over 0.18%.

The arrest stems from an incident where it is alleged that Hill was involved in a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Fayette where he fled the scene in a second vehicle. The vehicle was stopped by Seneca Falls Police Department a short time later and Hill was taken into custody.

Hill was released on an appearance ticket and is to appear before Fayette Town Court on 07/09/2024 to answer the charges.
