The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports on 2/22/21 at 9:50 AM Deputies responded to 2539 Vineyard Rd in Romulus for a structure fire. The owners of the farm, Stephen and Fannie Hertzler, called 911 reporting a work shop was fully engulfed in flames and that a barn with 11,000 chickens was next to the blaze. Romulus Fire Department arrived and were assisted on scene by Ovid Fire Department, Varick Fire Department, Fayette Fire Department, Interlaken Fire Department, Waterloo Fire Department, Border City Fire and South Seneca Ambulance and the Seneca County 911 center. The work shop, along with several dogs and cows and equipment, was unsalvageable and a total loss of over $150,000. The barn with the 11,000 chickens was slightly damaged with no loss of livestock. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
