Structure Fire

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on January 27th, 2023 at around 8am Deputies responded to 7587 County Road 129 in the Town of Ovid for a residential structure fire. Responding Deputies were able to quickly extinguish the fire, which was localized around the front doorway. When Ovid Fire Department arrived the scene was turned over to them to ensure all fires were extinguished. Deputies discovered that a dog was still in the residence alive. Deputies and Fire fighters went into the residence and safely removed the dog. The residence was then cleared by Deputies and no animals or people were located inside the residence. The home owner, Derek Steen was not present at the time of the fire but was later notified. It was reported that there is no insurance coverage for the residence. Deputies were assisted on scene by South Seneca Ambulance, Seneca County Codes and the Seneca County Fire Investigation Team. The responding Fire Agencies were Lodi Fire, and Interlaken Fire. Members of the South Seneca Ambulance crew rendered aid to the dog, who was eventually taken to a Veterinarian and turned back over to the owner.
