Beginning in early spring, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office conducts free boating safety courses for the public. These classes are for children and adults and meet New York State requirements for persons age 10-18 to operate a motor boat and persons age 14 and older to operate personal watercraft--(Also known as Jet Skis). Students receive their certification at the completion of the class which includes an exam. All course materials are provided. The Sheriff's Office sponsors these classes to promote boating safety and to help citizens meet legal operating requirements. The classes are taught by experienced officers. Students learn boating rules and regulations as well as how to handle emergencies on the waterways.
