MVA / assist GPD on vehicle pursuit -Town of Ovid

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on January 16, 2020, at approximately 0245HRS, Deputies responded to County Rd 131 in the Town of Ovid for a one car crash.

 Deputies report that the Geneva Police Department had attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle, which then fled from police at a high rate of speed.

The suspect vehicle refused to stop for Geneva PD and continued on Rt 96A down to the Town of Ovid just North of Lodi, where on County Road 131, the  vehicle lost control, striking a guardrail and overturning in the roadway. Deputies responded to assist and  Members of the Geneva Police Department and Seneca County Sheriff’s Office were able to take the driver of the vehicle, Shadad H. Alghaithy age 18 of North Clinton Avenue of Rochester NY into custody. The vehicle, a 2016 Toyota Corolla, was completely destroyed in the accident, and was towed from the scene.  During the investigation , it was discovered that Alghaithy was operating with a suspended New York license.  Alghaithy was charged by  Deputies with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd, a traffic Misdemeanor, and speeding . Alghaithy also faces multiple charges from the Geneva Police Department regarding the pursuit . Alghaithy was transported to Geneva General Hospital by South Seneca Ambulance where he received treatment for contusions and abrasions . The Ovid Fire Department and Lodi Fire Department were also dispatched to the accident, and assisted Law Enforcement on scene. Alghaithy  is to appear in Seneca County CAP court at a later date.
