Press Release - Lodi resident facing numerous charges



On October 1, 2013, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office concluded an investigation that began oh September 25, 2013 involving William J. Irwin IV, age 36, of 1931 Halsey Lane, Lodi, New York.  An investigation began on September 25, 2013, when a female victim reported that she had been held against her will, choked, and repeatedly threatened by Irwin.  Following this investigation, Sheriff’s Deputies stopped Irwin at a Town of Ovid business and he was found to be driving on a suspended driver’s license and driving while intoxicated.  Irwin was taken into custody and arrested on charges of Unlawful Imprisonment in the first degree, Menacing in the second degree, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, Driving While Intoxicated, Driving with .08% or more of alcohol, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the third degree, and Consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle.  Irwin was arraigned on the charges in the Lodi Town Court and remanded to the Seneca County Correctional Facility on $11,000 cash bail/$22,000 secured bond.

Subsequent to this arrest, it was found that Irwin possessed a loaded “sawed-off” shotgun at his residence and operated an apparent sophisticated large indoor marijuana growing operation.  Sheriff’s Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence and the marijuana grow operation was dismantled and taken into evidence.  Sheriff’s Investigators also recovered over 200 marijuana plants, a digital scale, an illegal ammunition feeding device and illegal fireworks.  It was also learned that a child less than eighteen years of age was staying at the residence at times.  As a result of the investigation, arrest warrants were obtained and executed on Irwin on charges of:

Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree, Class C Felony

Criminal Possession of Marihuana in the second degree, Class D Felony

Unlawful Growing of Cannabis by Unlicensed Persons, Class A Misdemeanor

Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Class A Misdemeanor

Unlawfully Dealing with a Child in the first degree, Class A Misdemeanor

Unlawfully Dealing with Fireworks, Class B Misdemeanor

Irwin was arraigned on these charges in the Lodi Town Court and remanded to the Seneca County Correctional Facility on $25,000 cash bail/$50,000 secured bond.  Irwin is to reappear in the Lodi Town Court on October 7, 2013 at 12:30pm.  A Class A order of protection was also issued on behalf of the victim.

Sheriff’s Investigators are working closely with the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and federal weapons and drug charges are pending.
