Press Release - Fatal MVA

On August 4, 2013 at 1127 hrs Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a fatal one car motor vehicle accident. A vehicle being driven by Philip J. Gaboury age 85 of 1919 Lehigh Station Rd, Henrietta NY (Monroe County) was north bound on State Route 96a in the Town of Fayette. The vehicle he was driving drifted off the east shoulder of the roadway, Gaboury over corrected and crossed the center line of the road. The vehicle then left the west side of the road and struck a guide rail. The vehicle continued in a northwesterly direction and struck some trees before coming to rest . A passenger in the vehicle Rose M. Gaboury age 86 (same address) and the driver sustained numerous internal injuries and were extricated from the vehicle by members of the Varick Fire Department. Both occupants were treated at the scene by South Seneca and Finger lakes Ambulance and then flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester , where both later succumbed to their injuries.
The road was closed for about 4 hours while Sheriffs Deputies reconstructed the accident. State Police assisted Sheriff’s Deputies at the scene. The vehicle was demolished and towed from the scene. Deputies report that the investigation is continuing.
