Press Release - Underwater Rollover
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On 07/21/2013 at approximately 03:56 pm, Seneca County Sheriff Deputies responded to the area of Post Rd, in the Town of Fayette for a 911 open line call received through the 911 Center. Upon arrival deputies found that a red 2001 Ford Explorer owned and operated by Holly M. Klue, 18, of Leader Rd Waterloo had lost control while navigating a curve, northbound on Post Rd sending the vehicle off of the roadway. The vehicle left the east side of Post Rd, rolled over and came to rest on the roof of the vehicle in a small pond on the east side of the road. The vehicle was almost completely submerged and the occupants were trapped inside the vehicle while water quickly rushed in. The rear seat passenger Nicholas L. Wheaton, 14, of St Rt 96A in Romulus, was able to escape from the vehicle, dial 911, and began rescue attempts for Klue and the front seat passenger Teresa L. Jensen, 16, of Cayuga St, Romulus, who were still trapped inside the flooded vehicle. Wheaton was successful in pulling both Klue and Jensen from the submerged vehicle and to safety. All occupants suffered minor scrapes and bruising and were checked over by North Seneca Ambulance and released. Border City Fire and NYSP responded to assist. After investigating the incident, Klue was issued a citation for speed not reasonable and prudent for road conditions, as it was determined that her speed around a curve with loose gravel was a main contributor to the accident. Deputies are continiuing their investigation.
