Press Release - Fatal MVA

Seneca County Sheriff's Office reports, on December 13th, 2012 at 5:55 PM Sheriff's Deputies investigated a two car fatal motor vehicle accident at the intersection of State Route 96 and Brewer Road in the Town of Waterloo. Sheriff's Deputies report Jean V. White age 59, of 1357 Story Road Waterloo was operating a vehicle north bound on Brewer Road when she failed to yield the right of way at the intersection at State Route 96. White's vehicle attempted to cross State Route 96 and was struck by a eastbound pick up truck operated by Stephen G. Lansing age 70, of 1305 Grange Hall Road Phelps. Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch on State Route 96. White had to be extricated from the vehicle by Waterloo Fire Department and was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Lansing and passengers Samantha L. Merkley age 11 and Zack S. Merkley age 9 were checked out at the scene by North Seneca Ambulance personnel and released with minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene. The Seneca County Sheriff's Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and a portion of Route 96 was closed for a little over 2 hours. Along with Waterloo Fire Department, the Border City Fire Department assisted at the scene.
