Press Release - Domestic Incident Arrest



On June 19, 2018, at about 10:32am, Seneca County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested Emerson J. Tohafjian, age 48, of 1470 Route 336, Lot 2, Waterloo, New York, on charges related to a violent domestic incident that occurred in the early morning hours of June 19, 2018 in the Town of Fayette.  During the incident, it is alleged that Tohafjian repeatedly choked a female victim, threatened to kill her numerous times, and forcibly raped her.  In addition, Tohafjian caused injury to a cat by throwing a cat carrier with the cat inside.  Both the female victim and cat suffered minor injuries. 


As a result of the investigation, Tohafjian was charged with the following:


Rape in the First Degree, a Class B Felony

Unlawful Imprisonment in the First Degree, a Class E Felony

Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, a Class A Misdemeanor

Cruelty to Animals, a Class A Misdemeanor


Tohafjian was arraigned in the Fayette Town Court and remanded to the Seneca County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail/$20,000 secured bond.  Tohafjian is to reappear in the Fayette Town Court at a later date.  A Class A Order of Protection was issued on behalf of the victim.


Sheriff’s Investigators were assisted by the Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division, New York State Police, and the Waterloo Police Department.
