Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports on May 26, 2018, at approximately 4PM,  Deputies investigated a one car fatal motor vehicle accident that occured on Marshall Road in the Town of Fayette.  Sheriff's Deputies report that they initally observed a vehicle speeding northbound on Rt 96 , and  attempted making a traffic stop on Rt 96 in the Town of Varick.  When emergency lights were initiated, the vehicle pulled to the side of the roadway, then merged back onto Rt 96 and refused to stop ,continuing northbound at 50-60 MPH. The dark gray Saturn  continued to drive recklessly , nearly striking other northbound vehicles. The vehicle turned west onto County Road 120 (Marshall Road) where the driver lost control on a curve and hillcrest - crossing over into the oncoming lane then back across the westbound lane - leaving the road and sideswiping a telephone pole then overturning and coming to rest in a field.

The driver and only occupant was identified as Larry D. Murphy, age 67, of  Canal St Palmya NY , was ejected  during the crash ,and pronounced dead at the scene by Seneca County Coroner Diane Peters.  Deputies report that Murphy's drivers license was revoked, and alcohol appears to be a factor, and the investigation is continuing.  The Seneca County Sheriff's Office  was assisted by the Village of Waterloo Police, Town of Seneca Falls Police, New York State Troopers, North Seneca Ambulance,  and Waterloo Fire Dept.
