Press Release - Narcotics Arrest



The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports the Narcotics Unit has completed an investigation into the illicit sales of Fentanyl in the local community.  Fentanyl is a highly addictive and dangerous synthetic opiate which is commonly sold as an alternative to heroin and has resulted in many fatal overdoses nationwide.  On April 24, 2017, at approximately 7:00PM, Sheriff’s Investigators charged Derek M. Mehlenbacher, age 24, of 4429 State Route 414, Seneca Falls, New York, with one count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony.  It is alleged that Mehlenbacher sold a quantity of Fentanyl on April 11, 2017 in the Town of Waterloo.  Mehlenbacher was remanded back to the custody of the Sheriff after being arraigned at the Town of Junius Court.
