Press Release - Narcotics Arrest.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

04/19/2017, 8:30 pm: the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit arrested Derek M. Mehlenbacher, age 24, of 9 East Elisha Street, Waterloo, New York, and Cheyann M. Saunders, age 21, of 4421 Route 414, Seneca Falls, New York. About two weeks prior Investigators received a tip of heroin laced with the narcotic drug fentanyl being sold in Seneca County. As the investigation progressed a search warrant was obtained. Investigators and Deputies conducted a traffic stop pursuant to the search warrant on Route 96 in the Town of Waterloo.  The search of the vehicle resulted in Sheriff’s Investigators locating and seizing a large quantity of heroin that Mehlenbacher and Saunders intended to sell throughout Seneca County--seventy-three bags were seized. Also seized were fifty-one (51) Alprazolam pills possessed by Mehlenbacher intended for sale and a small quantity of marihuana. 

Mehlenbacher was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, a Class D Felony, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a Violation.  Saunders was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony. 

Mehlenbacher and Saunders were both arraigned in the Junius Town Court where they were both committed to the Seneca County Correctional Facility.  Mehlenbacher was remanded on $5,000cash bail/$10,000 secured bond and Saunders was remanded on $1,000 cash bail/$2,000 secured bond.  Both are scheduled to reappear at the Junius Town Court on April 24, 2017 at 7:00PM.

The investigation into the fentanyl portion of the case is continuing.
