PISTOL PERMIT RECERTIFICATION

 

Dear Pistol Permit Holders,

 

            Recent changes to the New York State firearms laws require pistol/revolver

license holders to recertify their status every five years. Failure to recertify within the deadline provided below will result in the revocation of your pistol/revolver license. As part of the recertification process, you, as a pistol/revolver license holder, are required to confirm certain information such as your name, the current address of your residence, your date of birth, and a list of all pistols and revolvers you currently possess, including the associated make, model, caliber, and serial number(s). You will need to have a New York State Driver License or Non-Driver Identification Card in order to complete the recertification process.

How to Recertify

 

            You can recertify your pistol/revolver license electronically by visiting, https://firearms.troopers.ny.gov/pprecert/ and following the instructions on that web page. You can also recertify through the U.S. Mail by filling out a paper form (available at https://troopers.ny.gov/Firearms/ or any New York Police location) and then mailing the completed form to New York State Police, Pistol Permit Bureau, Building 22, 1220 Washington Avenue, Albany, New York 12226-2252.

When to Recertify

            The deadline to recertify is based on the date that you were originally issued your pistol/revolver license.

  • If your license was issued before January 15,2013, the deadline to submit your recertification is before January 31,2018

  • If your license was issued on or after January 15,2013, the deadline to recertify is five years after the date the license was issued.
