Press Release - FATAL MVA



  The Seneca County Sheriff's Office reports that on Sat 12-17-16 at about noon, Sheriff's Deputies investigated a two car Fatal MVA that occurred on Rt 89 in the Town of Covert.  Deputies report that Marie L Perez age 41 of 5854 Rt 96 Romulus was northbound on Rt 89, when she apparently lost control rounding a curve, and her 2001 Ford Focus skidded across the road- and into the path of a southbound vehicle- a 2013 Chevrolet silverado pickup truck driven by Jonathan C Cupp age 44 of 6799 Elm Beach Romulus. The passengers side of the Perez vehicle was struck by the front of the Cupp vehicle.  Deputies report Perez was pronounced dead at the scene by Seneca County Coroner Deb Kelley. Perez's children- who were rear seat passengers : Jasmine I Uresti age 6 and Elaina ML Carlsen age 5 months (both same address )were in child restraints and survived the crash. Jasmine Uresti was treated at the scene and transported by Trumansburg Ambulance to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where she is being treated for head and arm injuries. Elaina Carlsen was transported by South Seneca Ambulance to Upstate where she is being checked over. Jonathan Cupp was transported by Bangs Ambulance to Upstate ,where he is being checked over, his son Braeden Cupp age 13 (same address) , the front seat passenger in the truck , was transported by Bangs Amblance to Upstate where he is being treated for contusions and abrasions. The rear seat passenger in the truck- Gage Halsey age 13 of 1395 Prospect St Willard was also transported by Bangs Ambulance to Upstate , where he is being treated for a head laceration.  Deputies report the Ford Focus was demolished and the Silverado also sustained heavy damage and both were towed from the scene. Deputies were assisted at the scene by Trumansburg Fire and the NYSP, and the road was closed for nearly 4 hours while the Sheriff's Office accident reconstruction unit investigated the accident and the scene was cleaned up.  Deputies report the investigation is continuing.
