Press Release - Weflare Fraud Arrest
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On October 5, 2016, at about 1:10pm, Seneca County Sheriff's Investigators arrested Lois J. Stearns, age 60, of 7241 Ann Street, Ovid, New York, on several charges stemming from welfare fraud. Stearns was charged with: Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree (two counts), Welfare Fraud in the Third Degree, and Misuse of Food Stamps, all Class D Felonies. It is alleged that Stearns failed to disclose income to Seneca County Division of Human Services and unlawfully received public benefits. Stearns was arraigned in the Tyre Town Court and released on her own recognizance. Stearns is to reappear in the Waterloo Village Court on November 2, 2016 at 5pm.
