The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that the Road Patrol arrested Roy L. Searles, 33, of 364 Trumbulls Corners Road, Newfield, New York, on an arrest warrant for Grand Larceny in the 2nd degree (Class C Felony). Searles was picked up from the Onondaga County Justice Center and brought back to Seneca County. Investigators further charged Searles with two counts of Burglary in the 3rd degree (Class D Felony), one count of Grand Larceny in the 3rd degree (Class D Felony) and one count of Petit Larceny (Class A Misdemeanor).
The Grand Larceny 2nd degree charge stems from an incident on 12/29/21 where Searles stole a Ford pickup truck from Main Street in the Village of Ovid in broad daylight. After a search of the area and notifying neighboring agencies, the pickup truck was seen in the area of Trumbulls Corners Road where it was involved in a motor vehicle accident and fled the scene. The pickup truck was located on 12/30/21 in Tioga County and recovered by the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office.
The Burglary and Larceny charges are from incidents in the Town of Ovid and the Town of Fayette where Searles allegedly broke into storage units in both locations and stole property from inside. It is alleged that Searles stole over $5000 in tools from the Ovid location and over $100 from the Fayette location. Investigators believe these incidents took place between 12/26/2021 and 12/28/2021.
Searles was held and arraigned in the Seneca County CAP Court. Searles was released on his own recognizance and will appear at a later date.
