Domestic Incident / search Town of Ovid

On July 1, 2020, at about 3:43am, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brandon D. Casey, age 26, of 2778 Parish Road, Ovid, New York, on charges of Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, and Harassment in the Second Degree following a domestic disturbance at a residence in the Town of Ovid. It is alleged that at about 10 pm on June 30 ,Casey attempted to restrain the victim around the neck and further prevented the victim from making a 911 call, while at a Town of Ovid residence.  Casey then fled the scene to a wooded area behind the residence and witnesses reported that he was armed with a long gun and may have discharged one round while threatening responding law enforcement and himself. Sheriff’s Deputies immediately secured a perimeter and attempted to contain Casey to the immediate area. A Hyper-Reach was activated through the Seneca County E-911 Center advising residents to shelter in place. Sheriff’s Deputies also deployed a drone at the scene in an effort to locate Casey. After nearly five hours of  searching and  negotiations, Casey surrendered to Sheriff’s Deputies peacefully and was taken into custody. Casey was uninjured and was transported to the Seneca County Correctional Facility where he was arraigned in the Seneca County Centralized Arraignment Court on 07-01-20 at 8am. Casey was released on his own recognizance and is to appear in the Ovid Town Court at a later date. An order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim. Members of the New York State Police also assisted at the scene.
