The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on December 20, 2021 at around 7:30 A.M., Deputies responded to the Willard Drug Treatment Campus buildings at 7103 County Road 132 in Ovid for the report of an explosion. Two employees were working in the building when the explosion occurred. Neither was injured as a result of the explosion. A preliminary investigation into the explosion showed that a steam boiler on the bottom floor of the building suffered a catastrophic failure causing the explosion. The explosion caused serious structural damage in access of $100,000. The building is owned and insured by the State of New York as part of the New York State Division of Corrections. Other agencies that responded to the scene were the Ovid Fire Department and Willard Fire and Safety. Members of the New York State Corrections Division were also on present on scene.
