On 9/28/21 at 12:37 pm Deputies and Investigators responded to the area of State Route 89 south of South Cayuga Lake Rd. in the Town of Ovid for a personal injury motor vehicle accident. The accident involved an 18 wheel tractor trailer and an asphalt roller. Both vehicles were southbound on Rt 89 when the tractor trailer was overtaking the asphalt roller and the tractor trailer collided with the roller from behind. The driver of the asphalt roller was taken by South Seneca Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the accident. The victim is in critical condition. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured. Deputies and Investigators were assisted at the scene by Ovid, Lodi, Romulus, Interlaken and Canoga volunteer fire departments in addition to South Seneca Ambulance, North Seneca Ambulance, LifeNet, Seneca County Coordinators, the New York State Police, New York State DEC and New York State DEC Spill Response. The names of the drivers of the vehicles are being withheld at this time as the accident is still under investigation. More information will be released at a later date.
